DIY Holiday Decor for Your Devonleigh Home
The snow has finally started falling in Devonleigh communities, and we couldn’t be more excited for you and your family to celebrate the holidays together. Whether you’re hosting a party or preparing for Santa’s visit, we’re sure your home will look wonderful for Christmas.
Decorating for the holidays can be so much fun - especially when you get the little ones involved! We’ve come up with a list of our favourite winter decorating ideas that are sure to make your home merry and bright. Feel free to share your DIY decor with us on our Facebook page!
Wreaths
Winter wreaths are a beautiful way to make your front door festive and welcoming. The best part? They are so simple to make! You can usually find a foam ring from the dollar store, or better yet, you can use a wire coat hanger as your base.
If you’re looking for an inexpensive alternative to store-bought wreaths, the options are almost endless. Check out this adorable gift bow wreath! Stick to traditional Christmas colours for a more uniform look, or add some metallics to give the wreath some sparkle.
If you prefer a more nature-inspired look, try lightly brushing some pinecones in either white or gold paint to give a wintery effect. Next add an oversized ribbon, and you’re done!

If you have some ornaments from Christmases past that you’d like to retire, why not try a bulb ornament wreath? If your ornaments still have the hook attachment, you can even string them right on to your wire hanger base. If you want a wreath with more body, a glue gun is a simple way to place the bulbs exactly where you want them.

Centrepieces
Christmas table centrepieces are often quick, easy crafts that add a lot of elegance to any dining area. Gather some spare tealights and burlap from around your house, along with some festive details like faux mistletoe, cranberries, or fir trim.

Try wrapping a few tall candles in cinnamon sticks for a simple centrepiece, or even attaching some twigs to a glass candle holder for a year-round rustic look.

If you’re really looking to draw attention to your dining area, we love the idea of hanging ornaments from your lighting fixture. Not only does this add a great “modern” look to your dining area - it maximizes space on your table for food platters and place settings!

Garlands
Now, what could be more wintery than a nice, cozy fireplace? The fireplace is often the focal point of your living room, so it’s only appropriate to accent it with a beautiful garland (and of course some stockings!)
For a fun pop of colour, try an ornament garland like this one. All you’ll need is a needle and thread. Just like the ornament wreath shown above, you can use the hook loops already attached to the ornaments to string them together.

If you’re after a more contemporary look for your Christmas home decor, we recommend sticking to one colour (like gold, red, or silver) and mixing and matching the ornament finishes. A monochrome ornament garland with sparkly, matte, and reflective ornaments is sure to be an eye-catching addition to your living room.
Garlands aren’t limited to fireplace mantles, though! Garlands look wonderful when decorating a staircase railing, or strung across a ledge. Check out this classic fir garland with DIY ornaments added - too easy!

Decorating your home for the holidays is a wonderful way for you and your family to spend some quality time together. Many of the decor ideas we’ve listed above can be personalized just by adding photos of your family, or even letting your little ones add their own touch like a handprint or their name and year. You’ll have beautiful decor and memories to last a lifetime!
